WHAT IS LIONSEED?
Lionseed Bookstore & Community Commons is located in my hometown of Battle Lake, Minnesota.
Part independent bookstore, part learning commons, part community gathering space, Lionseed was created as a place where people can discover ideas, connect with one another, learn new skills, share their gifts, and feel a sense of belonging.
Since opening our doors in 2022, we've welcomed readers, learners, families, visitors, entrepreneurs, creatives, and community members of all ages. We host public and private events, provide educational and coaching services, and offer a welcoming space for conversations, collaboration, and community-building.
Whether you're stopping in to browse books, attend an event, work on a project, seek academic support, discover a new idea, or simply spend time in a space that values curiosity and connection, you're welcome here.

ABOUT KRISTIN
Lionseed is the realization of a dream I've carried for most of my life.
I grew up in Battle Lake, where my love of books, learning, community, and possibility first took root. Throughout my career, I've worked in higher education, communications, program development, community engagement, event planning, and educational support. Along the way, I've had the privilege of helping people connect with resources, opportunities, ideas, and one another.
I've always been a bit of a "utility player"—someone willing to step into whatever role is needed to help the team succeed. That spirit of service, combined with a lifelong belief in the power of learning, community, and human potential, continues to guide my work today.
Many of the values that shape Lionseed were influenced by the strong communities, educators, mentors, family members, and especially women who invested in me along the way. Their examples remind me that meaningful change often begins with ordinary people who care deeply, show up consistently, and create opportunities for others.

EDUCATION & COACHING
Long before Lionseed became a bookstore, my work centered around education, personal growth, and helping people discover their strengths.
Through Tending Windmills LLC, I provide executive function coaching, academic coaching, and educational support for students ranging from elementary school through graduate school. I have a particular passion for working with neurodiverse learners, including students with ADHD, dyslexia, autism, and other learning differences.
Our services began with Barton Reading & Spelling tutoring for students with dyslexia and have expanded to include executive function skills coaching, academic and career coaching, self-advocacy development, and individualized support designed to help students build confidence, independence, self-awareness, and lifelong learning skills.
In 2020, I was selected as a PACER Parent Leader, receiving specialized training that strengthened my ability to support families, advocate for students with disabilities, and connect parents with resources and information.
Today, I work with students both locally and virtually across the country.

ABOUT TENDING WINDMILLS LLC
Lionseed operates under Tending Windmills, LLC, an organization founded in 2017 to support educational, community-building, and creative initiatives.
The name comes from the belief that some things are worth pursuing even when they seem impractical, idealistic, or unlikely. Like Lionseed itself, Tending Windmills exists to cultivate possibility, support lifelong learning, strengthen communities, and help people discover what they are capable of becoming.
The projects evolve over time.
The mission remains the same.
